In March of 2008, graphics students in three classes: Graphic Design I, Graphic Design II and Digital Illustration were given the opportunity to design a poster for use in promoting Earth Week 2008 throughout the Hackettstown community. Twenty seven students submitted twenty eight poster designs. The posters were juried by members of the Earth Week group, including: Dr. Lynn Taylor, Dr. Bryon Grigsby, Dr. Lauren Bergey, Annamaria Lalavee, Linda Gonia, Mel Thiel (WNTI), and representatives from Hackettstown Public Schools and numerous Hackettstown community organizations. The winning poster design was created by Laura-Ann Russello. Laura-Ann is a junior, majoring in Graphic Design.
Recently, Centenary College and the Hackettstown Community organized their first ever free, public Earth Week Celebration. These events are intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth's environment.
Local participants include: WNTI, WRNJ, The Hackettstown Business Improvement District (BID), The Hackettstown Rotary Club, Hackettstown Public Schools and The Warren County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
